Jul 16 - Jul 30: International Green Shield

The International Green Shield saves low-income children and families from future natural disasters by strengthening their homes and schools BEFORE the next disaster strikes. We use newer, stronger and more sustainable materials & architectural designs to make homes and schools strong enough to survive the next disaster.

With the recent oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, our charity is refocusing its efforts to protect low-income families along the Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Texas coastline. This is due to the impending floods caused by the upcoming hurricane seasons. This year (and for years to come), the floods caused by the hurricanes will mix sea water and oil - dumping the oil on shore and into people’s homes. We aim to strengthen/ waterproof Gulf coast homes before the next hurricane strikes by:

* Fixing cracked home foundations so the water/oil can’t leak in
* Installing hurricane proof windows so the winds can’t get in
* Floodproofing house doors
* Anchoring home roofs better
* Doing all the little things that cost too much money for low-income families to do - but all things that can save their lives in the next storm.

If we can keep the water out, we can keep the oil out!
